Hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking. Not to forget, hang gliding, canyoning, rafting, tennis and horse riding. Macugnaga in Anzasca Valley, is the ideal place for an active holiday with sporting activities, walking and fresh air.
The Residence Cima Jazzi, in the hamlet of Staffa, is an excellent starting point for hiking the trails that lead to the nearby Quarnazza Valley and Lake of the Fairies, numerous pastures on the slopes of the Monte Rosa massif and the Fauna Oasis, the great protected area that extends from the Belvedere glacier up to the peaks of Monte Rosa.
From the residence the more daring and experienced trekkers can leave for the Zamboni Zappa Refuge, the Sella Refuge, and Alpe Cicerwald Lavanchetto, or along more challenging routes such as Black Lace, White Lace and the classic tour of Monte Rosa.
Trekking and mountaineering
The Anzasca Valley is full of feasible paths for hikers and tourists with trails of varying length and difficulty.
For the more trained ones the tour of Monte Rosa is certainly the most fascinating trek, feasible in seven days: starting from Macugnaga, the tour runs across six valleys of Piedmont, Valle d'Aosta and Switzerland and consists of 9 stages, for a total length of 190 km.
Even the less experienced mountain climbers can find around Macugnaga numerous possibilities for hiking: the one that runs along the Valle del Rosa, in the Anzasca Valley, the one that crosses the Wildlife Oasis of Macugnaga, the tour of the mountain pastures and the excursions in the Quarazza Valley.
Winter in Macugnaga
Alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, ice climbing, snowshoeing: there are so many winter sports on offer from November until spring months in Macugnaga, on the East face of Monte Rosa.
Macugnaga is home to two major ski areas, Belvedere and Monte Moro (3000 m in altitude), a cross country trail of over 20 km, marked trails for snowshoeing.
From Residence Cima Jazzi in Staffa, and you can quickly and easily reach both the ski lifts as well as the numerous cross country and hiking trails.
Skiing and snowboarding
The two major ski resorts in Macugnaga, Belvedere and Monte Moro, are the ideal destination for lovers of skiing and snowboarding.
The alp Belvedere, that can be reached with the Pecetto chairlift, offers slopes suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers, to whom the three red runs of 1932 meters in height are reserved.
The summit of Monte Moro can be reached from the village of Staffa and provides blue, red, and the most challenging black ski runs, with altitude gaps of up to 1000 meters.
Snowshoeing
Winter transforms Macugnaga and Monte Rosa in an enchanted place, made of woods and snow-covered ancient villages, to be discovered with snowshoes.
There are many organized walks in the snow during the winter season near Macugnaga, including fascinating excursions in the moonlight.
The busiest routes are those that run in the Wildlife Oasis of Macugnaga, the one towards Alpe Burki, the path Macugnaga-Rifugio Zamboni Zappa and those offered by the wild Quarnazza Valley.
