Anzasca Valley

Of all the valleys of the Ossola region, the Anzasca Valley is the one which most displays an unspoiled countryside and a natural environment practically in a state of wilderness. The whole of the valley from Piedimulera to Macugnaga presents visitors with villages which still preserve their ancient wooden and stone houses, their traditions and local culture.

The mountains that dominate the valley are dotted with high pastures and tiny hamlets, mute witnesses to an ancient history created by centuries of backbreaking toil.
The paths on the mountainside that were once the only means of communication between villages are now used by hikers as itineraries to explore the territory.

A few kilometres from Macugnaga, above the village of Borgone, is the high pasture of Cortenero, with its 18th century stone-built houses; from here the view of Monte Rosa is exceptional. Take the old mule-track to Vanzone, where you can visit the Museo del Latte (Milk Museum). You can take another path into the Segnara Valley,  lateral to the Anzasca Valley, where the environment is quite unspoiled and rich in flower and animal life; or you can visit the Baranca Valley, the ancient route linking Valsesia and Anzasca.

The staff of the Residence Hotel Cima Jazzi will be happy to give you information and maps with suggestions for mountain walks throughout the Anzasca Valley.
